ANANSI AND THE HERMIT CRAB

In the small town of Avebury, Ky steps into his grandmother’s house for the first time in his life. A year has passed since he first met Norma at his estranged father’s memorial. With a lot of convincing on her part, Ky decides to reconnect with her and his ancestral roots on the Caribbean island of Kiidadca. He arrives, ready to explore the town, but instead unknowingly runs into Anansi the Spider, his grandmother’s arch-enemy. The Spider sets his sights on Ky, looking to get revenge for what Norma did to him years ago. With Anansi’s tricks and schemes threatening Ky’s life, Norma is forced to be honest with him about the past, and Ky is forced to confront his grief surrounding his father. Together with the help of the ancestors, they join forces to not only defeat Anansi, but to end the cycle of familial trauma in their bloodline.A public playreading, funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and supported by Puente Theatre and Kaleidoscope Theatre, was concluded in September 2024.
